Meta Confirms $14.3 Billion Investment in Scale AI as CEO Steps Down

Meta Acquires 49% Stake in AI Through Strategic Partnership

Under the agreement, Meta will acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI. This positions Meta as a key strategic partner. The move marks a bold step in Meta’s efforts to compete in AI, especially in areas like data infrastructure and superintelligence research.

CEO Alexandr Wang Leaves AI to Join Meta’s Superintelligence Team

Alexandr Wang, who co-founded Scale AI, will now work at Meta. There, he will focus on AI and superintelligence initiatives. He will still serve on Scale AI’s board of directors, ensuring alignment between the two organizations.

In the meantime, Chief Strategy Officer Jason Droege will take over as interim CEO.

Scale AI Maintains Independence While Accelerating AI Growth

Even with Meta’s major stake, AI will operate independently. The company plans to use the new funding to repay early investors and expand its AI data services. It also aims to hire top talent, including senior engineers and PhD-level researchers.

Meta’s Move Highlights Growing Competition in the Scale AI Sector

This investment shows Meta’s commitment to advancing in AI, as it seeks to match rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Reports from SingalFire indicate that Meta lost 4.3% of its top AI talent to competitors in the past year.

Scale AI’s data-labeling tools play a critical role in training large AI models. This partnership will help Meta strengthen its position in the fast-growing field of generative AI.
