British Runner Makes History with Fastest Foot Crossing of Australia

British Athlete Completes Fastest Foot Crossing of Australia in 35 Days

British ultra-endurance runner William Goodge has made headlines by claiming a new world record for the fastest run across Foot Crossing of Australia . He completed the journey in just 35 days.

Starting at Cottesloe Beach in Perth on April 15, the 31-year-old reached Bondi Beach in Sydney on May 20. He covered a staggering 3,800 kilometers (2,361 miles). Draped in the Australian flag and joined by his father, Goodge ended his run with a tribute to his late mother.

Originally from Bedfordshire, England, Goodge ran around 100 kilometers daily — about two and a half marathons — without taking rest days.

This mission was deeply personal. He dedicated the run to his mother, Amanda, who died of cancer in 2018. In her memory, he raised funds for cancer charities in the UK, USA, and Australia

Breaking Records and Making History

Goodge’s run appears to have surpassed the previous record of 39 days, set by Chris Turnbull in 2023.

In comparison, Nedd Brockmann, another notable runner, completed the same route in 47 days back in 2022, raising millions for charity.

Guinness World Records has yet to confirm Goodge’s achievement officially, but his team has submitted the documentation.

Goodge described the journey as the hardest physical and mental challenge of his life. Speaking with the BBC, he recalled battling dust storms, extreme fatigue, and intense pain.

His feet suffered heavily — from lost toenails to bone pain severe enough to cause hallucinations. The Nullarbor Plain, a remote desert stretch, was especially taxing on his body and mind.

At the finish line, Goodge placed flowers at Bondi Beach to honor his mother. “She would have been proud, and probably scared too,” he said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald.

He found comfort in the idea that her courage gave him the strength to push forward during the toughest moments.

From the U.S. to Australia: A Record-Breaking Path

This isn’t Goodge’s first major feat. He previously became the fastest Briton to run across the United States.

Along the Australian journey, he witnessed the country’s vast and varied landscapes — and often saw local wildlife, sadly in the form of roadkill.

Despite some public skepticism about GPS tracking data, his team insists that every step was logged and verified.
