Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ in Break from Trump Over Tax Bill
The political divide between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk has reached a breaking point. Musk started the America Party on Saturday, just one day after Trump signed a huge tax and spending bill into law. Musk says that the bill will hurt the country’s financial future a lot.
Musk said on X, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” His decision came after a poll showed that most of his followers wanted a new political party to be formed. “You want a new political party by a factor of two to one, and you will get it!” he wrote.
A Tax Bill That Crossed the Line
Musk made his choice because of Trump’s new tax bill, which the president called a “big, beautiful” success. Musk, on the other hand, said it was dangerous and irresponsible. He said that the law would make the U.S. deficit, which is already huge at $2 trillion, even bigger at $2.5 trillion. He says that this move could put the country on the path to bankruptcy.
Musk used to be a big supporter of Trump. During Trump’s second term, he was in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency. He also gave hundreds of millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign for re-election. But their partnership has fallen apart because they disagree on important issues.
Trump recently said he would cut federal subsidies that help Musk’s companies, like Tesla and SpaceX. Musk said he would pay for campaigns to get rid of lawmakers who supported the bill in response. Because of this, a lot of Republicans are now worried that the fight could hurt their chances in the 2026 midterm elections.
Musk said that the growing deficit made him change his mind. He said, “Raising the deficit from an already crazy $2T under Biden to $2.5T will bankrupt the country.”
Fighting the Two-Party System
Musk also said that his political strategy was like that of the Greek general Epaminondas. That leader is well-known for using focused tactics to beat Sparta. Musk also says he wants to “crack the uniparty system.” Instead of trying to run for office all over the country at once, he wants to focus on certain races.
Experts say that Musk will have a hard time, even though he has a lot of money and power. It won’t be easy to break the long-standing power of the Republican and Democratic parties. Even so, the start of the America Party could mean a new direction for U.S. politics. It could lead to bigger changes and a shift in the political landscape in the future.
