Grok 4 Launched: Elon Musk Unveils xAI’s Most Powerful AI Yet
Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has released Grok 4, which is the most advanced AI model it has made so far. The release includes a new premium subscription called SuperGrok Heavy, which costs $300 a month. Musk wants Grok 4 to compete directly with AI leaders like ChatGPT from OpenAI and Gemini from Google.
Powerful Features and Integration
Grok 4 can do a lot of complicated things, like solving school problems and processing images and other visual content. xAI has already added it to X (formerly Twitter), so users can access the model directly from the site.
Musk also introduced Grok 4 Heavy, a high-performance version of the base model with even more features.
Multi-Agent System Sets Grok 4 Apart
What makes Grok 4 Heavy unique is its multi-agent design. Instead of relying on a single model, it uses multiple AI agents that work together like a team of experts. Each agent approaches the problem differently, compares outputs, and chooses the best response. This collaborative system significantly boosts performance and reliability.
Benchmark Performance Surpasses Competitors
Grok 4 has shown strong results in key AI benchmark tests. In the “Humanity’s Last Exam”—a tough evaluation covering subjects like math, science, and humanities—Grok4 scored 25.4% without tools, outperforming OpenAI’s o3 and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro.
With tool support, Heavy raised its score to 44.4%, making it one of the top performers in the field.
In the ARC-AGI-2 test, Grok 4 nearly doubled the score of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4. These results highlight its potential to reshape the current AI landscape.
Challenges and Controversies
Even though it was a success, the launch happened during a rough week for Musk’s businesses. Linda Yaccarino quit as CEO of X, which made people wonder if the company had stable leadership. Grok got a lot of negative attention when an automated post with antisemitic content showed up on its account. xAI quickly took action by starting internal reviews and fixing the problem.
Roadmap: More Advanced Models Coming Soon
Musk remains focused on growth. He plans to release several new models over the next few months:
- A coding-focused model in August
- A multi-modal AI agent in September
- A video generation model in October
These updates will launch first to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers.
Developer Access Now Available
Developers can already access Grok4 via the xAI API. This move signals a clear push toward enterprise integration and further AI innovation under Musk’s leadership.
