Harry Brook Rises to No. 1 in ICC Test Rankings, Surpasses Joe Root
Harry Brook is now officially the best Test batsman in the world according to the ICC. He passes fellow England star Joe Root after a great game in the second Test against India at Edgbaston. Brook’s amazing 158-run knock in the first inning was very important. It helped England tie the series 1–1 in Birmingham.
Brook’s return to form couldn’t have come at a better time, especially since he is only 25. Because of this, he is now ahead of Root by 18 rating points in the new ICC rankings. The race between the two is an exciting time for England’s Test batting lineup.
In the meantime, Shubman Gill, India’s captain, has moved up a lot in the rankings. He moved up 15 places to sixth place, which is the best position of his career, after scoring 269 and 161 in the same match.
Gill is now only 79 rating points behind Harry Brook, who is now the new leader. His rise shows how much more important he is becoming in India’s Test setup, especially after leading the team to a strong performance.
Another standout from the Edgbaston Test was England’s Jamie Smith. The wicketkeeper-batter scored an unbeaten 184, followed by an 88 in the second innings. Thanks to this performance, he jumped 16 spots to enter the Test top 10 for the first time.
Clearly, Smith’s consistency and form have earned him global recognition.
Jasprit Bumrah stayed at the top of the bowling rankings. He didn’t play in the Edgbaston Test because he had too much work to do. He is still ahead of the rest of the pack.
Mohammed Siraj took over in his place. He moved up six spots to 22nd because he did so well. Also, West Indies fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph each moved up six spots to 29th and 31st, respectively.
Noman Ali of Pakistan is still the only bowler from that country in the top 10 Test rankings.
Charith Asalanka moved up to sixth place among batters in ODIs. His hard work helped Sri Lanka win the series against Bangladesh 2-1. Kusal Mendis, who was named Player of the Series, also moved up 10 spots. This is the first time he has made it into the top 10 ODI batters.
