Iga Swiatek Wins Wimbledon in Historic Fashion with Double Bagel Victory
Iga Swiatek wins her first Wimbledon title in commanding fashion, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes. Seeded eighth, the 24-year-old Polish phenomenon delivered a flawless performance to claim her sixth Grand Slam singles title — and her first on grass. It makes her the titleholder on clay, hard, and grass.
A Dominant Display of Tennis History
Swiatek’s “double bagel” — not losing a game — is the first in a Grand Slam final since Steffi Graf defeated Natasha Zvereva at the French Open in 1988. There has not been a women’s final 6-0, 6-0 at Wimbledon since 1911.
Throughout the course of the match, Swiatek was never in a break situation. She took six out of nine break points. Her stats were clinical: 10 winners and just 11 unforced errors. She is the first Polish player to own a Wimbledon singles title with this win.
After the match, Swiatek described her emotions as “super surreal.”
“I never even dreamed about it — it was too far away,” she said. “But this year I truly felt like I was able to contribute more here. It’s incredible, and I’m going to hold on to this moment.”
Amanda Anisimova, 23, was playing in her first Grand Slam final. She committed five double faults and 28 unforced errors, and had only eight winners. Even with the loss, her Wimbledon campaign featured a massive semifinal victory over World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The performance will propel her into the Top 10 for the first time in history.
Already a four-time French Open champion and 2022 US Open winner, Swiatek now holds titles on all three Grand Slam surfaces.
She has also achieved 100 Grand Slam match wins since debuting in 2019 — a milestone few reach this early in their careers.
A New Era in Women’s Tennis
This marks the eighth consecutive first-time women’s Wimbledon champion since Serena Williams last won in 2016.
Swiatek’s win reflects not only her greatness but also the thrilling unpredictability and depth in women’s tennis today.
