While Iran carried out the executions, violence raged in Gaza. On the same day, the Israeli army announced the deaths of seven soldiers in southern Gaza. The soldiers were battling Hamas forces, the Palestinian militant group.
Five of the deceased belonged to the same battalion, including a platoon commander. Officials withheld the seventh soldier’s identity at his family’s request. Since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, more than 430 Israeli soldiers have died in combat.
