Marco Rubio: U.S. Had No Role in Israeli Strikes on Iran
U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio made it clear on Friday that the United States played no role in Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian targets. He also warned Iran not to retaliate against American troops or military sites in the region.
“We were not part of the Israeli military action against Iran,” Rubio said. “Our top priority is the safety of American service members across the Middle East. Iran must not miscalculate by attacking U.S. forces or interests.”
Trump Administration Quickly Distances Itself
As talks to revive a nuclear deal with Tehran continue, the Trump administration moved swiftly to distance itself from the Israeli operation. Marco Rubio emphasized that while Israel had informed Washington ahead of time, the United States did not participate in the strike.
“Israel told us they believed this action was necessary for self-defense,” he noted. “However, the decision was theirs alone, and we had no role in carrying it out.”
Israeli Strikes Reportedly Kill Top Iranian Commanders
According to Israeli officials, the airstrikes targeted Tehran and several other Iranian cities early Friday. They aimed to hit nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and senior military figures.
Iranian media reported the deaths of several high-ranking officials. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, died in the strikes. Iranian news agencies called him a martyr. Additionally, Major General Hossein Salami, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was allegedly killed during a strike in the capital, as reported by Tasnim News Agency.
Iran Responds with Leadership Changes
In response, Iran quickly appointed Ameer Habibullah as the new Chief of Staff. This move aims to stabilize its military leadership following the deadly attacks.
Marco Rubio Issues Firm Warning to Tehran
As tensions escalate, Marco Rubio’s remarks reflect Washington’s effort to avoid deeper conflict. He urged Iran to think carefully before launching any retaliation that could endanger U.S. lives.
“Our message is clear,” Rubio said. “We did not carry out these strikes, but we will defend our people if necessary.”
