Trump Claims Trade Deals with India and Pakistan After Ceasefire

Trump Claims Trade Deals After Ceasefire Creates Path for Economic Cooperation

U.S. President Donald Trump claims trade deals with both India and Pakistan are underway. He said these agreements follow a de-escalation in tensions between the two nuclear neighbors. Speaking at the White House with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Trump credited U.S. diplomacy for helping calm the situation and open doors to economic progress.

Trump explained that rising tensions between India and Pakistan had reached a dangerous point. “I talked to both sides. Things were heating up fast. It was serious,” he said. “But we helped bring calm. Trade was a big factor—we used it to shift the conversation toward peace.”

He praised leaders from both nations. Trump called Pakistan’s people “fantastic” and described Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India as “a friend.” He believes stronger trade ties can help prevent future conflict. “I think we stopped a major disaster,” Trump added. “Trade isn’t just about money—it’s about stability.”

Trump also shared his broader vision of using economic partnerships to resolve global conflicts. He pointed to U.S. efforts to ease tensions in Ukraine as another example of this strategy. According to Trump, building trade relationships can serve as a long-term path to peace.

This announcement signals a shift in U.S. engagement in South Asia. Trump’s administration appears to be using trade as a diplomatic tool more actively than before. While details of the deals remain unclear, officials say the aim is to boost investment and increase market access between the three nations.

If successful, these initiatives could lead to greater stability and economic growth in the region. Observers note that while Trump’s claims still need to be backed by results, his approach marks a new chapter in U.S. foreign policy toward South Asia.
