U.S. Launches Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites, Trump Confirms

U.S. Launches Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites, Trump Confirms Major Escalation

U.S Launches Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites marking the first direct American military action against Iran. This is a huge increase in tensions in the Middle East. On Saturday night, President Donald Trump said that Iran’s main nuclear enrichment sites were “completely and totally obliterated” after airstrikes that were very accurate.

The operation hit Iran’s most important nuclear sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—making the already tense conflict between Iran and Israel, which had been going on since June 13, even worse. The U.S. Navy also helped by firing 30 Tomahawk missiles into Iran. Trump called the operation a huge success, but independent verification of the full extent of the damage is still pending.

U.S. Launches Strikes and Trump Delivers Stern Warning

In a televised address from the White House, flanked by Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump warned Tehran of more severe consequences if peace negotiations are not pursued swiftly. “There will be either peace or tragedy,” he stated. “Many targets remain. If peace does not come quickly, we will strike again with precision, speed, and unmatched skill.”

Trump first disclosed the strikes on his Truth Social platform, praising both American forces and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu responded by applauding Trump’s “bold decision” and called the action “historic,” believing it would reshape the regional balance.

Trump’s move is seen as a calculated risk. His administration believes that a limited, focused strike can weaken Iran’s nuclear ambitions without dragging the U.S. into another prolonged Middle Eastern war. Yet, the danger of wider escalation remains significant.

Military leaders have not fully assessed the damage to Iran’s deeply buried nuclear sites, particularly Fordo, which is believed to house sophisticated enrichment equipment protected by mountains. The operation likely used GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs, delivered by B-2 stealth bombers, which were seen departing Whiteman Air Force Base earlier in the day.

Iran has warned that it reserves the right to defend itself if attacked. Tehran may target U.S. military bases, embassies, or commercial interests in the Persian Gulf and beyond. There is also the looming threat of asymmetric warfare through Iranian proxy forces like Shiite militias in Iraq and the Houthis in Yemen. The NYPD has already heightened security at sensitive sites across New York City in anticipation of potential retaliatory strikes.

Divided U.S. Political Response

People in the U.S. had mixed feelings about Trump’s choice. Republican lawmakers mostly praised the move as brave and necessary, while Democrats called it reckless and possibly disastrous. Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, criticized Trump for going around Congress and putting American lives at risk in a new conflict in the Middle East.

Trump, on the other hand, stood firm and ended his speech with a stern warning: “Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must make peace.” Now that the world is watching, the focus is on what Tehran will do next.
