UAE Maritime Rescue Saves 24 After Tanker Collision

UAE Maritime Rescue Evacuates 24 Crew Members After Gulf of Oman Tanker Collision

In a rapid operation, UAE Maritime Rescue teams evacuated 24 crew members from the oil tanker ADALYNN after it collided with multiple vessels in the Gulf of Oman, near the crucial Strait of Hormuz. The collision occurred earlier Tuesday, prompting the UAE coast guard to launch immediate rescue efforts.

The incident took place 22 nautical miles east of Khor Fakkan, a coastal city in the UAE. British maritime security firm Ambrey reported the accident first, clarifying that security threats did not cause the collision. Shipping sources later told Reuters that one vessel struck two others in quick succession.

The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Oman and Iran, remains vital for global oil transportation. About one-fifth of the world’s oil supply moves through this narrow channel daily. According to energy analytics firm Vortexa, between 17.8 and 20.8 million barrels of crude oil, condensates, and fuels pass through the strait each day since 2022.

The accident occurred amid rising regional tensions. For five straight days, Iran and Israel have exchanged military strikes. On Friday, Israel launched a large-scale offensive to hinder Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Although the tanker collision had no direct link to these conflicts, the ongoing hostilities have raised concerns about maritime security in the region.

Electronic Interference Creates Additional Risks

Naval sources informed Reuters of increasing electronic interference targeting commercial navigation systems in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf. This interference is complicating vessel operations and adding to the challenges faced by international shipping companies.

UAE Maritime Rescue teams quickly deployed search and rescue boats. They safely transported all 24 crew members to Khor Fakkan’s port, where the rescued individuals received immediate assistance. The UAE National Guard confirmed the evacuation’s success in a public statement.
